Day 4: Painting, Bricks, Beach, and More!

 Good evening families and friends!!

Today was our second to last day... isn't that crazy??

Like normal, our wake up time was 7:00 AM, although most of us didn't get up until around 7:40 AM for our 8:00 AM breakfast. Breakfast was, once again, continental, featuring foods such as bagels, waffles, and oranges (Anna loved the oranges)!

After breakfast, we split up into two groups: painting and brick-laying. We were both part of the painting group, so we can explain our experience with that, and we asked Carter to help us with explaining their experience in the brick-laying group.

The painting group consisted of eight people, including advisors; Greta, Ally, Emily, Jordyn, Erin, and Olivia were our fellow painters. We first started by painting the sides of the building with a light brown paint. Some of us used the rollers, while others cleaned up the edges around the trim with paintbrushes. Delaney was kind enough to lend us her speaker, so we were able to play music including Rihanna and Fleetwood Mac while we were painting! Anna used both the rollers and the paintbrushes, and she also did a lot of work on the ladder, as she was tall enough to reach the highest points. Cassie mainly used the paintbrushes, and she mostly did ladder work as the other painters got the lower sections for her. She also did a small section with the roller as we were on a time constraint. After we finished the walls, we started on the trim and fixed up any spots that needed some extra attention.

In the brick-laying group, Sam and Josh led the team in laying the bricks. Their job consisted of using hammers to pack the bricks down and pulling back the grass and rocks to make room for the bricks. Also, Bob, Jake, Anthony and Jordyn worked together to get the pond and fountain in the garden working again.

After a very productive morning, we were rewarded by a variety of wraps, such as ham or turkey and cheese, buffalo chicken, and chicken salad. Anna enjoyed one ham and cheese and one buffalo chicken, while Cassie ate two ham and cheeses. Anna had sweet tea, and Cassie had some lemonade.

Once lunch was finished, we took a quick break and went back to working for a little while. However, after about an hour more of working, our advisors called us into a meeting on the patio. They informed us of a surprise BEACH TRIP!!! We quickly changed into our swimsuits and hit the road.

On the van ride there, we got into the beach mood by jamming out to "24K Magic" and "Beauty and a Beat." Once we arrived, half the group played catch with a football, while the rest of us got in the water or tanned. Cassie and I spent most of the time in the water, partly because we were trying to get the paint out of Anna's hair... Once we settled in, the majority of the group went in the water and continued playing catch with the football.

After about an hour and a half, we had to get back for Children's Time, so we left the beach. However, once we arrived back at Deep Roots, we found out that Children's Time was cancelled for the day, so we all showered and got ready for dinner early.

For dinner, they made meatloaf, mac 'n' cheese, and green beans. Anna liked the food very much; she had everything along with some more sweet tea. Cassie ate a TON of mac 'n' cheese—it was Velveeta, which is her favorite, so she was very happy.

Later, after she had finished her meatloaf, Anna went outside to play with the cats with Emily while others played basketball with some of the kids who live in Deep Roots. Meanwhile, Cassie and some others relaxed back at the house.

We finished the night with some programming and group discussions, followed by starting to plan our roles in the worship service we will be leading on May 3rd.

Have a good day!!

Anna and Cassie
