Day in DC!

Good evening fellow people reading this. Today we went on an adventurous journey to DC. We started our morning bright and early at 6:30 and ate a continental breakfast with yummy pastries. We left Deep Roots at 8:15 (for once we were actually early) and had a 2 hour drive to DC. During the two hour drive we enjoyed listening to music some hip music like Bad Bunny. Once we arrived at the metro, we took a ride to lunch, at DC Central Kitchen where we talked to some of the employees about the work DC Central Kitchen does. They give culinary training to those who are struggling so they can find job. They also feed people, provide emergency housing, and long term housing. At DC central kitchen one of the workers shared his story about how DC central kitchen helped him find a family and job after being imprisoned for over 30 years. He explained how he missed his kids whole childhoods and lost his family support and trust along the way. He shared how this kitchen provided a family and has a special connection to him.

Next, we visited the National African American Museum of culture and history at around 12:15. We learned about many historical moments starting from the 1400s to around the 2000s. We walked around for a couple of hours learning about some emotional stories that enhanced our learning of the struggles that African Americans went through. Along the way some of the information helped Emily, Anna, and Micah study for their APush test coming up next month. We got some great photos as well as learning a lot information that gave us more knowledge and understanding which was a really great experience.

After the museum around 2:30 we started walking around and seeing all the monuments. The first monument we visited was the Washington Monument where some of us enjoyed ice cream and Jordyn couldn't stop talking about Hamilton (oops, my bad). Micah also took an INTERESTING picture that we are unable to display, but it was very funny, you just have to believe us and use your imagination. We also facetimed John to wish him a very happy birthday. After the Washington Monument we visited the World War II monument which we walked through enjoying the views where Carter took some interesting insta flics displayed below (including a sorority squat). After that we went to the MLK monument where Jordyn took a Tylenol because her feet hurt. After an excruciating walk in the blazing heat, we arrived at the Lincoln memorial. We saw the Lincoln statue and then sat down on the steps where many interesting things happened. First, Micah and Sam "popped that thang" in front of the memorial, which is Tiktok dance that Charlotte taught them. Next, a group of boys saw a man who they thought was famous influencer, (Emily and I still don't know who he is). Jake and Micah went up to the man to ask if he was a famous Youtuber, where they turned around in defeat and walked back up the steps, it was NOT the man they thought it was...

Next, Bob led us on a very excruciating journey across the whole city because we were running late for our dinner reservation at Ben's Chili Bowl. Though Jordyn claimed she "was gonna die" we made it there eventually and it was delicious. They played a video for us explaining what they do and some cool facts about the place. It's been there since 1958 and was very prominent during the civil rights movement. Many famous people have eaten there, such as Serena Williams, Bruno Mars, Barack Obama, and many more people including singers, actors, and comedians, such as Jimmy Fallon. We enjoyed Hot Dogs and Hamburgers with fries covered in chili a nd cheese which was very delicious.

After the long day we headed back on the Metro for the last time of the day to head back to Chuck and Bailey (the car and the van). During the car ride back, Jordyn fell asleep so she doesn't remember much, so we're going to let Emily write this paragraph. The ride was pretty long however Bob kept the van's spirit alive by playing the Bluey theme song and the Moana soundtrack. We made it back on the Deep Roots premises. Once we got back to the mission house, we received our packages that our parents made for us before the trip. It was such a great surprise and we loved everything inside! Thank you so much! Now Jordyn and I are going to bed because we are TIRED. Here's a bunch of pictures of our day!

Jordyn and Emily signing off. Goodnight.
